In the preface of Prealgebra, you will find a Learning Styles Inventory that determines whether you are a visual, auditory, or tactile/Kinesthetic learner. On this site we have included links to another learning styles inventory and also to some links to online resources designed to help you become a better learner.

The following link takes you to a Learning Styles Inventory developed by Barbara A. Solomon and Richard M. Felder of N.C. State. Even though you may have worked through the inventory in the text, this inventory is a little different and may offer even more insight into your personal learning style. Once at the site, click on ILS questionnaire-Web version to do the inventory. After submitting the completed questionnaire you will receive a page that shows your results on various scales. It is helpful to print out the results page, then click on the Learning Styles Description link to get descriptions of the results. http://www2.ncsu.edu/unity/lockers/users/f/felder/public/ILSpage.html

This is an extensive site with lots of tips and strategies for learning. The site is broken into the following categories: Preparing to Learn, Classroom Participation, Studying, Reading Skills, Preparing for Tests, Taking Tests, Writing Skills, and Writing Essays. The site also has links to some learning styles inventories. http://www.iss.stthomas.edu/studyguides/

This site has lots of tools and resources to help learn how to learn. Click on the Resources tab to bring up various resources designed to help you become a better learner. There is information on learning styles, memory, reading, writing, etc. http://snow.utoronto.ca/Learn2/introll.html
